Taree’s Damian Cudlin has climbed up the World Endurance Championship standings with a solid 4th place finish at the 3rd round of the series at Albacete in Spain on the weekend.
The young Aussie battled it out into the early hours of the morning for the final podium position but eventually lost out to the fast finishing Spanish Folch Yamaha team. One of the most physical circuits on the World Championship calender, the gruelling Albacete 8hour race tested many of the riders and machines, however Cudlin’s Phase One Yamaha team proved to solve the engine problems that plagued them in LeMans and scored some vital championship points in the Spanish heat. “I was a bit disappointed to miss out on another podium finish but it was probably the result we deserved and it’s nice to get some points on the board after LeMans.” Cudlin said. “I’m still finding it hard to get fully comfortable on the bike but I think I’ve just got to get around that and ride the wheels off whatever I’ve got. I’ll be heading to the next round in Belgium with a different attitude and just try to wring it’s neck.” Cudlin smiled. Cudlin moved from 9th to 6th in the Championship standings but was quick to point out that there is still a long way to go before the season’s out. “We aren’t even halfway through the championship yet so there’s plenty of racing left to climb further up the leader board.” Damian said. “I won’t be happy if I’m not in the top 3 at the end of the season and anything higher would be a bonus, so that’s what I intend on doing. I want to see those podium steps a couple more times yet.” The next round of the World Endurance Championship will be held at Zolder in Belgium on the 18th of June. |
