Cudlin on the podium again

Taree’s Damian Cudlin has secured his 3rd podium finish of the season in the 6th round of the World Endurance Championship in Germany on the weekend.

Cudlin alongside Nowland and Minnin aboard the Phase One Yamaha, clinched 3rd ahead of the Kawasaki Bolliger Team in the final stages of the 24hour race of Oschersleben.

In what was the most exciting race of the season, Cudlin who ran as high as 2nd in the early stages, was locked into a 22hour battle with Kawasaki for the final spot on the podium, the pair never separated by more than 3 minutes in the whole 24hour race.

Cudlin and the Phase One Team eventually came out on top in the final stages to take 3rd place in the race, thanks to back to back sessions by Nowland and Cudlin during the night, and a stunning wet session by Minnin in the early hours of the morning.

“What a race! This has truly been the hardest race I’ve ever done, but to stand on the box at the end of it makes it all worth while.” Cudlin said.

“Our story was really just a titanic battle with Kawasaki in the fight for 3rd. It was like a 24hour fist fight, we all pushed so hard. Warwick and I went back to back during the night to give us every chance, which was really hard, but I truly think that my team mate Christer Minnin delivered the knockout punch to Kawasaki with his awesome speed when the rain fell. He was flying in the wet!”

Cudlin has moved to 3rd in the World Endurance Championship standings with one round remaining.

“The next round in France will be just a tough.’ Cudlin said. “The Bol’dor 24hour is a real classic event and is the final race of the year, so it’s sure to be big. The title is out of reach for me now and realistically I think 3rd is about as far as I can go this year, so if I can finish where I am now I’ll be happy. I just want to end the year on a high note.”

The Bol’dor 24hour in France will be held on the 16/17th of September.
