 Ken with Damo in Italy
This update is one that's brought to you with deep sadness. My mate Ken Donagan, the fireman for my Phase One Yamaha team passed away on Friday night. I was told the bad news at our team BBQ on Saturday.
Ken had been a long term supporter of the Phase One Yamaha team and over the time we worked together became a mate of mine. I first met Ken at Vallelunga, Italy last year. His always joking, laid back, say what he thinks personality was very infectious and I liked the guy instantly. That weekend I scored my first WEC podium and when I gave him a swig of my champagne he looked happier than I was. He was also with us this year at Assen and LeMans, where he tagged me with the nickname 'Skippy'. He couldn't make it to Spain, but his text message saying 'Good job Skip' was the first one I received after the race. Ken had been a cab driver in London for years, but on Friday night he was mugged. It was during this event that Ken suffered a major heart attack and died at the scene. It's so gutting knowing an incident like this has taken him away from us, but I guess it was just his time to go. I'd just like to bump into the bastards who mugged him.... I hope they get what they deserve. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Ken Donagan |
