Suzuka 2005

Taree’s Damian Cudlin will fly to Japan next week in preperation for the next round of the World Endurance Championship, the Suzuka 8 Hour race.

The Suzuka 8 Hour race is widely regarded as the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world, with many factory, semi-factory supported entries and high profile riders reflecting the importance that the Japanese manufacturers place on winning this race.

Cudlin who made his debut last year at the 8 hour believes he gained some valuable experience that will put him in good shape for this year’s race.

“It was really a bit of an eye opener for me last year, I learned a lot.” said the young aussie.

“It’s not only the track that’s tough, but the heat and humidity can really take it out of you if you’re unprepared. Plus the race is arguably the most important in the world, at least it is to the Japanese, so the competition is good. It’s a real place to showcase your talents against the best in the world.”

Among one of the favourites for this years race, Yamaha’s Superbike star Noriyuki Haga will be teamed with MotoGP ace Colin Edwards.

Cudlin currently sits 5th in the 2006 World Endurance Championship standings but insists that a strong showing in the next 2 races could turn things around in this year’s series.

“Japan and Germany are the next 2 on the calendar and are possibly the most important of the season. They are both tough races with good opportunities for big points towards the championship, so I’m hoping we can move to 3rd before we head to France. That’s my target, so I’ll give it shot and see what happens.” said the 23 year old.

The Suzuka 8 hour will be held on the 30th of July.
